34 AIM-Apr26383 Eco-brand Friendsheep LLC aims to provide high-quality, eco-friendly products that respect animals and the environment, while also providing work and purpose to women and disabled artisans in underprivileged communities of Nepal. We speak to the brand’s visionary Founder, Valeria Isaacs, as it gains notable prestige in the Global Excellence Awards 2026. Born out of personal conviction, Friendsheep LLC (Friendsheep) upholds the ethos that the products brought into our homes should not come at the cost of the planet, other people, or animals. The brand was founded in 2015 by Valeria Isaacs following a spinal cord injury which left her quadriplegic at the age of just 22. During her recovery, Valeria went back to school, earned a Master’s degree in molecular biology, and spent a lot of time thinking about what kind of work would matter to her the most. “I knew I wanted to create something good,” she explains. “A product that was good for the planet, for the people using it, and for the people making it - a product that would allow me to give back to the planet and do good in the world.” As a disabled woman, Valeria understands firsthand how meaningful and hard to find dignified work can be. It’s not only income - it is identity, purpose, and the ability to provide for the family. That’s why, from the very start, Friendsheep has partnered exclusively with Fairtrade artisans in Nepal, predominantly underprivileged women and people with disabilities, who handcraft every single product it sells. “Our core values are simple but non-negotiable: earth first, people always,” elaborates Valeria. “Everything we make is plastic-free, cruelty-free, compostable, and reusable. We don’t compromise.” In an industry overrun with greenwashing, what sets Friendsheep apart is that its sustainability isn’t a marketing strategy - it is the reason it exists. Valeria measures success not just in revenue but in impact: pounds of plastic prevented, energy saved, trees planted, fair-wage workdays created, and donations made. To date, Friendsheep’s customers have collectively kept nearly five million pounds of plastic out of landfills and oceans, saved over 749 gigawatts of energy, and helped to plant more than one million trees. The firm also donates 20% of all proceeds to nonprofits working in ocean conservation, reforestation and animal rescue spaces, and it’s a proud member of 1% for the Planet. “We also pride ourselves on joy!” Valeria enthuses. “Sustainability doesn’t have to be boring. Our products are beautiful, playful, and fun, because at Friendsheep we believe the best way to change behaviour is to make the new habit the more enjoyable one.” As previously mentioned, greenwashing (the deceptive practice of using marketing and public relations to make an organisation, product, or policy appear environmentally friendly when it is not) is one of the biggest challenges of current times, and among one of the most dangerous trends. The market is flooded with products that call themselves ‘natural’ or ‘eco-friendly’ while still being made from synthetic materials, wrapped in plastic, or manufactured without any regard for the people making them, thus eroding consumer trust and making it increasingly difficult for people to know who, or what, to believe. Valeria’s background in molecular biology means she is not easily fooled by clever marketing. She is well aware what endocrine disruptors do to the body, and what happens to synthetic microfibres when they enter the water supply. Valeria is also knowledgeable that a product made from petroleum-derived materials isn’t sustainable just because it’s reusable. “The only real way forward is natural, biodegradable, and circular products that leave no trace at the end of their life,” she states. “That’s why we’re committed to full transparency. Every material, every partner, every claim is backed by action.” Friendsheep also pushes back hard against the idea that synthetic alternatives are a step forward. Replacing a plastic dryer sheet with a synthetic dryer ball is not progress. Real progress is choosing renewable, biodegradable, and compostable items instead. Such as Friendsheep’s Eco Dryer Balls, its hero product! These simple, fun replacements for dryer sheets and liquid fabric softeners are not only reusable, plastic-free, chemical-free, and effective. They also reduce drying time by 20-40%, which means lower energy bills and less time waiting for laundry. Made with no synthetic fragrances, no endocrine-disrupting chemicals, no plastic waste - just pure wool! Spreading Love, Not Toxins!
