41 GHP Q3 2024 stablished in 1959, BDK is an outstanding material conversion company that places a strong focus on the medical and pharmaceutical markets. An innovative, technical company, BDK leverages its extensive industry experience to work with leading healthcare brands, facilitating quicker recovery, earlier detection, and better health for all. Having spent over six decades perfecting its craft, BDK offers a diverse, all-encompassing service to its clients. The company specialises in slitting, laminating, die cutting and perforation of materials, island placement and dosing, as well as pouching, packing and printing of finished products with prototyping and regulatory support. Due to its experience and capabilities, BDK can offer its clients a flexible service that spans from the initial prototype samples to fully validated products scaled up for mass production. The company can aid its clients at any step of their process including working as a contract manufacturer to efficiently produce pre-designed products; assisting with design or material selection, utilising its deep knowledge of raw material performance; or working with customers and research institutes to develop and design new solutions for the market. From component materials to be used further down the process, to semi-finished medical devices, or fully packaged and sterilised products ready for distribution, BDK is well-equipped to deliver exceptional solutions. “There are not many companies of our size that can offer the same breadth of service,” says Daniel. “We are part of the ATPGroup and can really start from the very beginning to develop a bespoke adhesive tape solution for our customer if nothing on the market can be found that does the job. Alternatively, we can work on a tape alternative to reduce costs.” At BDK’s heart is its desire to deliver remarkable services to its clients. To achieve this goal, the company upholds its core principles of respect and inclusivity, empowerment and growth, excellence in action, and client-centricity. BDK prioritises open communication and mutual respect within the team to ensure that each member feels valued and included. Furthermore, the company aims to foster a culture of continuous learning and empowerment, promoting the continuous growth of its employees. In doing so, BDK ensures a team of happy, productive employees motivated to thrive within their roles. Based in Ipswich, BDK is a medical supply company that specialises in the manufacturing and distribution of adhesive tapes and converted components. With a robust quality management system, BDK has built a reputation of outstanding quality amongst its clientele. We speak with Managing Director Daniel Eng to learn more, below. BDK: Earlier Detection, Quicker Recovery, Better Health This approach is extended to BDK’s clients, suppliers, and partners, with whom the company aims to build strong, collaborative relationships. BDK actively listens to their needs, maintains transparent communication, and strives to deliver excellent services and products. “We are dedicated to achieving the highest standards in all our endeavours, from our products to our interactions,” Daniel tells us. “We uphold quality standards, take pride in our work, and consistently act with integrity. Accountability is central in our approach; we are committed to taking responsibility for our actions and their outcomes. Our strong work ethic ensures we deliver the best results while adhering to sustainable practices, reassuring our customers of the quality and sustainability of our work.” Daniel tells us that the medical supply industry is still affected from the true impact of COVID-19, which created numerous problems still prevalent beyond the pandemic. Following a significant increase in sales for COVID-19 tests, huge stock levels were built at all stages of the supply chain. A number of BDK’s customers are only now resuming their normal work and ordering patterns. Additionally, the new medical device and diagnostic device regulations enacted by the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has added complexities to both BDK and its clients’ operations. All products already on the market must be upgraded, if even only via paperwork, to comply with the new regulations. While this may have slowed down innovation for BDK, the company is pressing forward on its mission for growth. Looking ahead, BDK has its sights set on excellence. “We want to become the partner of choice for our existing and new customers,” says Daniel. “We are investing in becoming a much slicker organisation with new structures, processes, and infrastructure. We are investing in automation and streamlining of processes.” Over the course of more than six decades, BDK has refined its operations, enhanced its offerings, and developed a solid understanding of its clientele. For these reasons, BDK has been awarded the prestigious title of the Best Adhesive Component Manufacturer 2024 in the 2024 Global Excellence Awards.
