23 GHP Q3 2022 Dr Conlon’s Aesthetic Clinic was founded in 2008 by Dr Clare Elizabeth Conlon MBChB FRCA with the focus of providing aesthetic solutions for clients who want to maintain a natural look. As a result, her client base is predominated by people whose goals are to maintain their appearance whilst avoiding any of the tell-tail signs that they have had any procedures done. Her work hasn’t gone unnoticed by Global Health & Pharma magazine, with her clinic being crowned as Greater Manchester’s Most Outstanding Aesthetic Clinic, 2022.We of course had to get in touch with the lady herself to learn more. AdvancedAesthetic Treatments ello, Dr Conlon. Delivering treatments that achieve such natural results is truly your area of expertise. Please give us an insight into the world of aesthetics procedures. I am passionate about natural-looking aesthetic work. Unfortunately there are many examples of aesthetic treatments in the world around us that do not look natural and I am focused on demonstrating to the general public that it is possible to have procedures done that improve the appearance whilst looking natural. I want my clients to be able to choose to share with their friends and family if they wish, rather than looking like they have had ‘work done’. So, what makes your clinic stand out from competitors? You are a consultant anaesthetist for the NHS, and this field of medicine requires you to use needles and injectables in your daily practice. Please tell us more about what makes your practice unique. I graduated as a doctor from the University of Edinburgh Medical School in 2003 and began anaesthetic and aesthetic training in 2006. I became a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2010 and a Consultant Anaesthetist in 2013. Anaesthetic skills naturally compliment the skills required to be an aesthetic clinician. I practice independently which means I can guarantee the standard of care and client continuity but also that I am less forced to be driven by market forces. I have a level of medical training and expertise that has allowed me to provide reassurance to clients and deliver treatments safely and professionally. Please describe the relationship you build with clients as you consider together the non-surgical options that may be suitable to them. I believe communications skills are at the core of good clinical practice, allowing me to understand fully the client’s area of concern and also their own individual wishes of how to approach treatment, for example, whether they wish to take many small steps. What is the internal culture like at your firm? How does it contribute to your success? This is one of the cornerstones of my which again sets us aside from competitors. The Hippocractic Oath is sworn by doctors on graduation and defines ethics standards that must be upheld: avoid overtreatment, therapeutic nihilism; remember that there is art to medicine as well as science; and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon’s knife or the chemist’s drug. I will not be ashamed to say, “I know not or I cannot”. These principles define/describe the integrity and honesty at Dr Conlon’s Aesthetic Clinic. Are there any recent trends that have had an impact on the service your clinic provides? Since the pandemic, I frequently see clients who have become aware of a particular facial feature or expression after using video calls. Whilst discussing treatment options for their areas of concern in a consultation, I am also mindful of assessing the client’s self-esteem which can have deteriorated not only with the psychological effects of lockdown but also the use of video calls. As my core ethical values are to essentially help people feel ‘better’ and to increase their confidence, I think it is important to highlight how common it is for people to dislike their own appearance on video calls and that often we can be very self-critical. Your clinic has grown consistently and has enjoyed success due to your skills as well as your considered, professional behaviour. How is the future looking for your practice? I have decided to expand the clinic to offer this service to more clients. It has always been an option but I have been hesitant as I would not want the standard to fall and would also need to ensure that any individuals who became involved mirror my approach both ethically and clinically. Dr Conlon’s Aesthetic Clinic is proud to introduce Hayley Conlon into the clinic. Hayley has begun advanced aesthetic treatment training building on a background as an intensive care nurse. In addition, the range of treatments will be expanded to include an injectable aesthetic body treatments of body contouring/lipolysis. Innovation and research in both these product areas has greatly advanced the safety and efficacy of both.
