44 GHP / Q2 2021 , Jan21311 Based inMilton Keynes, Care Support MK provides assisted living to enable individuals to retain their independence for as long as possible. Having recently being awarded the title of Best Supported Living Service – Buckinghamshire, we speak to Rebekah Cooke about the agency, its unique approach, and its plans for expansion. Milton Keynes’ Finest Care Support MK offers specialised supported living and outreach services for individuals with complex needs. These include people who have a learning disability, autism or mental health diagnosis. Working with a number of commissioning bodies, as well as directly with individuals and their families who have a direct payment, Care Support MK offers a robust and efficient support programme to such individuals, both in its own accommodation and through support in the community, to increase independence and to help patients achieve their fullest potential. “We don’t have a one size fits all approach,” explains Rebekah Cooke of Care Support MK, speaking of the techniques employed by the company to ensure best service. “For every referral we receive, we carry out a comprehensive assessment and work as a multi-disciplinary team to review these.” This process involves the creation of a bespoke package based on the information gathered from all those involved in the person’s life, but also based on the experiences of Care Support MK as a team. This enables a plan to be developed which really puts the client at the centre of the service. “Whenever possible we involve the person in this process as much as we can,” Rebekah continues. “We believe that listening to them and giving them as much control as they are able to safely have, enables us to be least restrictive and ultimately for the person to be happy.” Care Support MK prides itself on looking after not only the people it cares for, but its staff too, promoting a culture of support and open communication that results in a transparent and consistent approach. “We encourage staff with their development and create opportunities for progression. As a result, the majority of our staff have been with us for many years. This has enabled the people we support and their support networks to develop longstanding working relationships.” Having been well-established in the Milton Keynes area since 2012, Care Support MK works with both health and social care commissioners and, although the pandemic has delayed plans slightly, it has started to explore expanding into other areas with the main focus being to promote independence, choice and inclusion for those who have complex or challenging needs. “We are currently expanding into other areas,” Rebekah embellishes. “We now have a contract with Hertfordshire and are in negotiations with other authorities about providing supported living and outreach services.” Care Support MK managed to remain open to referrals throughout the pandemic and continued to support people to maintain and develop their independence, reducing their need for formal support.
