It provides a top-rated set of data management functionalities such as inventory tracking and management, protocol and SOP management, compliance (CFR 21 part 11, GxP and ISO), team management and collaboration, integrations and API, project management, safety and security of data, and more. To accompany the software solution, SciNote provides best rated customer support and implementation consultancy to all clients. Klemen Zupancic, PhD, CEO of SciNote LLC said, “We recognise that the greatest challenges the world is facing today can only be solved by the best minds among us working together with one main focus — reproducible science. This concept allows scientists to build on each other’s findings and work towards the common goals and tackle the global issues. Whether we are talking about the environment, disease, food, population growth, etc. Our mission is to help humanity benefit the most from science and to preserve research data for future generations. In this way, we can contribute the most to the greatest challenges scientists are working to solve. Every time a scientist compliments our software, we know we played our small part in the global challenge they are addressing.” Since its establishment, SciNote has followed strong values. Being scientists, the team approached the market research challenge in a scientific way, which resulted in an actual scientific publication. Together with the University of Southampton, the SciNote team conducted the largest study on electronic lab notebook software (ELN) adoption so far. The published study provides information on the direction in which the ELN market is moving and insight on why the ELN adoption has been so slow. This was one of the most important factors that steered SciNote’s success in the right direction. And the team did not stop there. Last year, they published a book in collaboration with Wiley Inc, “Digital Transformation of the Laboratory: A Practical Guide to the Connected Lab”. The book delivers essential and transformative new insights into current and future technologies and strategies for the digitisation of laboratories. Thoroughly supported and backed-up with contributions from thought and industry leaders, the book shows scientists in industry and academia how to move from paper to digital in their own labs. 60% of the SciNote team has a scientific background, and 45% of managerial positions are held by women, with 65% of the team having been working together from the early days of the company. Here, Klemen takes a moment to comment on the nature of the company’s culture: “During the pandemic, the company culture was among our top priorities. We clearly stated that our priority as a company is to get through this without anybody losing their job. Perhaps it is an obvious goal for the company, but such a statement puts everyone in the same boat. This does two things: no one is alone and everyone is motivated to look for solutions that will keep the boat afloat.” The pandemic has been a challenge and a growth opportunity for SciNote. Besides inspiring and engaging the team, SciNote’s main priority was how to empower its clients, who tirelessly continued working in different research laboratories across the globe. During the pandemic, clients such as FDA, NIH, European commission and more joined SciNote’s clientele and recognised the value of going digital. The SciNote team prioritised three main aspects at this time: boosting ingenuity instead of risk-aversion, with the team putting full focus on three goals and encouraging employees to bring all possible ideas to the table; crisis scenarios became a main driving force, with the team defining three business continuity scenarios, each of them ensuring that no one lost their job; and CEO, Klemen Zupancic personally attended a virtual tour and held online meetings with various customers from academic and industry labs to tackle the crisis. The pandemic did hit the science industry pretty hard. Initially, it almost stopped overnight, since people weren’t allowed to work in the labs. After the initial shock however, researchers came back to labs and worked extra hard to find solutions, from vaccine and treatment development to various tests and other analyses. Since efficiency and data availability were growing in importance, SciNote found many opportunities to contribute and now feels reassured that it is part of the solution and that it is working in the right direction. In the coming years, the company wants to focus on polishing the product to make it more user-friendly. Additionally, it wants to integrate with many other tools that scientists are already using to make their work more seamless. Last but not least, it wants to enable better and easier sharing of data and knowledge created by scientists in order to quicken scientific progress around the world.
