12 GHP / 2018 Private Healthcare Awards , PHA18018 Fitzwilliam Hospital FitzwilliamHospital is one of Cambridgeshire’s leading independent hospitals with a reputation for delivering high quality healthcare treatments and services provided by expert, compassionate and professional staff. We provide a fascinating overview of the hospital and explore how it provides world class treatment to its patients every day. Established in 1983, Fitzwilliam Hospital works in partnership with its sister Boston West Hospital to provide a comprehensive service for private patients seeking first- class patient care and clinical expertise. Uniquely located with a perfect balance of rural quiet and metropolitan facilities, the hospital is situated in the quiet landscaped grounds of the Milton Estate in Peterborough. Just four miles from the A1 and five minutes from Peterborough train station that serves the main East coast rail network, patients have easy access from East Anglia, Cambridgeshire, Rutland and London. Just over 30 miles away, Boston West Hospital allows access for patients in Lincolnshire. Patients to attend local and convenient outpatient pre- and post-operative and physiotherapy appointments at Boston West Hospital, visiting Fitzwilliam Hospital for more complex surgery. As both of the hospitals share many of their consultants, patients can rely on continuity of care. Offering a wide range of services and solutions, the hospital is committed to offering the highest standards of care and services that patients need. As such, Fitzwilliam Hospital is the only hospital in the locality that offers weight loss surgery, where a team expert weight loss specialists have extensive experience in weight loss surgery. The hospital also offers all of its patients a first class aftercare package which ensures they receive all the support they need during their weight loss journey including access to specialist nurses, dieticians and support groups. The hospital is also home to pioneering cosmetic breast surgeons who use biological strattice implant mesh when performing breast reconstruction surgery following a mastectomy. This surgical mesh is made from specially processed pig skin and its use offers patients a shorter operation and hospital stay. Although Fitzwilliam Hospital offers a wide range of treatments, preventative healthcare is also vitally important to the hospital and, as such patients can book a comprehensive health screening to assess their health and fitness and, to help them prevent and highlight health issues at an early stage, whilst utilising expert lifestyle advice. The team also offer advanced, non-invasive and 100% safe body mapping and mole screening using a dermoscope to map and analyse patient’s moles to detect early signs of skin cancer. Additionally, Fitzwilliam Hospital also offers a full range of orthopaedic procedures including custom made knee surgery that uses customised cutting blocks for each individual patient. Knee surgeons, Mr Rupert Clifton and Mr Richard Hartley, who use this advanced technology, can make accurate bone cuts to position a patient’s knee implant in the optimal alignment so that patients benefit from reduced operating and recovery times, lessened complication risk and decreased postoperative pain. In addition, Fitzwilliam Hospital can provide patients with private GP appointments, often with same day diagnostic tests if required, including X-rays, CT, MRI and ultrasound scans, cardiac testing (ECG) and cancer screening with fast-track results and reporting, as well as consultant, nurse and physiotherapy referrals. To provide an insight into the hospital’s future, we invited Carl Cottam, Hospital Manager to talk us through the central principals that hospital staff always abide by and how these will continue to be developed and adapted as the hospital seeks to remain a bastion of exceptional private healthcare over the coming months and years. “Here at Fitzwilliam Hospital, the heart of our service revolves around the ‘Ramsay Way’ culture.
