93 GHP Healthcare & Pharma Awards 2023 With a UK-wide team of naturopaths, nutritionists, and nutritional therapists, NatureDoc runs remote nutritional therapy clinics, providing individuals and families with tailored lifestyle advice to improve their health and wellbeing. The company is best known for its paediatric nutrition expertise, especially when it comes to neurodiverse children. NatureDoc was founded by Lucinda Miller, an experienced naturopath, who has been named Functional Medicine Expert of the Year 2023. In the modern day, 52% of British shopping baskets are made up of ultra-processed or fake foods. It has been shown that gut health, physical health, and mental health are inextricably connected, meaning these poor food choices are ultimately harming the physical and mental health of the population. On top of this, a quarter of children in year six at UK schools are obese. These facts motivate NatureDoc to inform people and help them make good choices related to their lives and nutrition, enabling them to build healthier and happier families. The company believes that health and wellbeing start with fostering people’s trust in natural foods and encouraging their willingness to take responsibility for their own health. It aims to be a trusted household name as a champion for children’s neurodevelopment as well as a reliable partner for keeping the whole family happy, healthy, and well. NatureDoc takes a nonmedical approach to the work it does but collaborates closely with the medical community. Clients typically turn to the company when they have health problems that haven’t been addressed by doctors. It primarily works with those who want to maintain or improve their own and their loved ones’ health naturally, through complementary health solutions. The core clinic provided by NatureDoc starts with the targeted lab testing of clients’ blood, stool, urine, and hair samples. The company’s practitioners incorporate functional medicine into the work they do, taking a scientific and holistic approach to identify the key drivers of clients’ health problems. From the results gained, they provide clients with advice related to their nutrition and lifestyle, recommending changes they can make to improve their overall health. Alongside its core clinic, NatureDoc runs an online eCommerce store, which sells mostly food supplements such as Omega oils, vitamins, and minerals, as well as healthy and free-from foods. NatureDoc’s accomplished Owner and Co-Founder, Lucinda Miller, practised children’s nutrition independently for several years after a change in diet positively impacted her life and inspired her to enter the field. Eventually, she had amassed such a long waiting list that her husband, Christopher Miller, suggested she either increase her prices or take on more practitioners to decrease her intense workload. Wanting to help more children rather than less, Lucinda chose the latter. To support her in this decision, Christopher joined to help her build NatureDoc into a full business. Today, Lucinda has published two health books, including ‘The Good Stuff’ and ‘I can’t Believe it’s Baby Food’. She is the public face of NatureDoc, having taken on the position of Clinical Lead. With an established background in marketing and finance, Christopher serves as the company’s Managing Director, leading all non-clinical activities. The team of practitioners Lucinda and Christopher have built are primarily working mums who run clinics flexibly, mostly from home, supported by readily available IT, mentoring, and marketing assistance. Long before Covid, NatureDoc pioneered the concept of virtual clinics, when Skype was still considered advanced. Lucinda believes that NatureDoc is especially unique thanks to the collaborative relationships that have formed amongst her team of practitioners. Furthermore, her team are driven by a strong desire to follow the latest science, whilst so many are sticking to outdated attitudes about nutrition. “Building a team of this quality and size has been an amazing success in an industry that has a lot stacked against nutritional therapy and naturopathy,” Lucinda reflects. Over the years, Lucinda has received a wealth of positive feedback for her work. For example, one client states, “Lucinda has been really amazing at not only helping my kids but also diagnosing all the family’s underlying issues. Her treatment plan is clear, and she is always available to answer our queries. She is approachable and accommodating to any particular avenues/diets you also want to pursue.” For this reason, it is no surprise that Lucinda has been awarded Functional Medicine Expert of the Year, London, in the Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Awards 2023. Having recently launched in-person workshops for parents of children with ADHD and an online course titled ‘Nutrition for ADHD’, Lucinda looks forward to further upcoming projects. She comments, “We are super excited about our online courses, as our first one has been a huge success with insanely good feedback. We have more planned on topics like Nutrition for Autism, Nutrition for Children’s Immunity, and Nutrition for Menopause.” We congratulate Lucinda on her success in this year’s Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Awards and wish her the best of luck moving forwards.
