Following the firm’s well-deserved success in the Fitness &Nutrition Awards 2020, we got in touchwith CEO SaraMedwed to find out more. To start, Sara provides a brief overview of the firm and offers more insight into its client base. “Typically, our main business involves selling premium quality wellness products and essential oils to high-end customers, but also to spa and wellness hotels, massage therapists or other therapists. The essential oils we sell are CTPG Certified Pure Tested Grade essential oils, and we receive enquiries from hospitals or schools sometimes about the usage of diffusers and various oils for air purification and the different health effects. The quality of the products is certainly a differentiating factor, and so is our swift and friendly customer service. Sometimes we provide free introductory classes to essential oils, or little do-it-yourself workshops, mostly when we get enquiries. At various times we have been asked to attend corporate events organized by sports and social clubs across Ireland, i.e. EMC’s Earth Day in Ballincollig, Cork.” Founded in 2015, P&S Essential Oils has achieved steady growth and established a formidable reputation in the health and wellness industry. Moreover, as Sara informs us, her partnership with Co-Founder Peter Schneider has arguably been the most telling factor behind the firm’s success. “While I have a pedagogic background and a general love for natural and alternative forms of healthcare and wellness, Peter has a business background and a general love for natural and alternative forms of healthcare and wellness. Naturally, our different skills complement each other well. As Peter takes care of our website, marketing, and answers emails, I am usually involved in talks, workshops, and events. A few years back we were invited by Hidden Hearing to join their road show across Ireland and to exhibit on their events. Last year we joined ISA, the Irish Spa Association, which has improved our business.” The outbreak of COVID-19 this year has prevented talks and events from going ahead, so from a business development point of view the firm’s progress has been halted. However, as Sara goes on to explain, from a retail perspective it has still been able to prosper. “While spa & wellness places or therapists were really badly impacted, online retail soared and many people were looking for the anti-bacterial handwash with essential oils, or oils for better breathing, better sleep, calming and focusing, emotions management, oils for air purification and much more. Essential oils are used for wellness, but many people use them as an alternative form of healthcare for a multitude of minor issues. So, we ourselves actually did ok and carried on working normally.” Bringing the interview to a close, Sara discusses some of the developments the firm has seen this year before outlining some of its plans moving forward. “Over time we have discovered customers can always change, sometimes more and sometimes less. In response, we have optimised our product range and taken out some products that were not in demand anymore, i.e. a milkshake range (vegan and non-vegan) with essential oils for weight management. Instead, we added new products, i.e. a metabolic gum for weight management. In terms of fitness, we have products for weight management, for motivation and energising, for breathing and also for after-workout, to prevent (or soothe) sore muscles and joints after exercise. “Looking ahead our website will soon get a general revamp, which will take a few months. That aside, it is very difficult to make any concrete plans in the current climate with the COVID-19 situation, especially as there are new lockdowns in discussion.
