Having recently recognised Kaushik in this year’s Private Healthcare Awards as the Rheumatology Consultant of the Year - South England, we invited him to talk us through the secrets behind his success. Enhancing Treatment Options for Arthritis Sufferers Being a qualified Consultant Rheumatologist and Physician with dual specialist accreditation, Dr Kaushik Sanyal supports acute and chronic complex rheumatology patients. The cases he undertakes can vary from inflammatory arthritis to its numerous variants including back pain. The complex presentation also includes crystal arthropathy, connective tissue disease, soft tissue injury and atypical sports injury. Supporting such a range of patients offers Kaushik an opportunity to enhance his skillset and gain new knowledge, which he is deeply passionate about. “Since the beginning, my push has been to provide a bespoke healthcare service to patients with complex presentation. I spend time on taking a detailed history and studying clinical presentation and plan the appropriate medical treatment. This helps to provide a better diagnostic and therapeutic service. “Through my work supporting patients with complex symptoms, I often have to engage in discussions with multiple specialities, which I enjoy. Over the years I have learnt how rewarding it is to work with people in multiple disciplines. I enjoy collaborating, and as such my patients have the option to liaise with me directly via email or telephone during the therapeutic process. The whole intention of this is to provide fool proof patient-oriented healthcare and satisfaction. Development in rheumatology comes from new state-of-the-art diagnostic tests and cutting-edge drugs. With a focus on safer healthcare emerging, I take a particular interest in medical decision making.” Achieving the success of winning an award in the GHP Private Healthcare Awards for 2018 is a great honour for Kaushik, who is proud to discuss how far he has come and his great pride in the success he has achieved for both himself and, most importantly, his patients. “With great pride and humility, I would like to thank everyone who nominated me as 2018 Rheumatology Consultant of the Year in the South of England. I also want to thank my senior colleagues and mentors who have set me examples which have inspired me all through my career.
