Biotech Awards 2017
ghp Biotechnology Awards 2017 | 13 Best Pharmaceutical Research Facility - UK & Recognised Leading Academic in Biophysics BI170013 Established in 1925 the School has an exceptional reputation leading many quality tables across the globe. Nurturing a new generation of leaders in academia, industry and healthcare, it ranks 6th in the world in the QS World Rankings and the number one School of Pharmacy in England in the 2016 Guardian University Guide. The School’s portfolio of multidisciplinary research is focussed on understanding and developing treatments for some of the most complex and challenging diseases of our time. The School has five integrated Research Divisions – Biomolecular Science and Medicinal Chemistry (led by Professor Barrie Kellam), Molecular Therapeutics and Formulation (led by Professor Cameron Alexander), Regenerative Medicine and Cellular Therapies (led by Dr Felicity Rose), Advanced Materials and Healthcare Technologies (led by Professor Dave Barrett), Pharmacy Practice and Policy (led by Professor Claire Anderson) - housed in state of the art modern facilities and has research programmes that span all areas of pharmaceutical science and practise in a virtuous circle connecting Bench and Society. The striving research of the School is exemplified by 200 or so research papers published each year, many of which are in top journals and co-authored by the highly talented PhD research students that are set to be the future leaders in their field. With a leading role in major initiatives in medicine, biological sciences and nanoscience, the School has long-standing ties with the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. To accelerate the transfer and impact of its research into the pharmaceutical industry and beyond the School hosts the Interface and Surface Analysis Centre (ISAC); an access point for commercial and industrial clients to surface analytical expertise, facilities and problem solving consultancy at the University and its partner, the National Physical Laboratory (NPL). Ultimately, the School works hard to ensure that its teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels is informed by the world- class research it undertakes. This is exemplified by the innovative four-year pharmacy (MPharm) degree, run in Nottingham and Malaysia, that was the result of over three years of planning, innovation and design to combine state-of-the-art clinical education and training from year 1, together with the strongest of scientific educations to provide a unique pharmacy education. This has recently been supplemented by the UK’s first fully integrated five year pharmacy degree, which includes an integrated pre-registration training and assessment. The School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham leads the UK in the training of future pharmacists and is recognized as a world leader for research in the design and use of drugs and medicines. We profile the school and explore the range of services it offers. Contact: Phil Williams Contact Email:
