A new London diploma course aims to train healthcare professionals in how to help people overcome anxiety caused by crises like Brexit. It is estimated* that one in three adults in the UK are suffering with mental health issues due to uncertainty over Brexit. Now, the internationally-recognised Austrian psychologist Dr. Alfried Laengle, has launched a diploma in Existential Analysis, which teaches a type of psychotherapy to help people make sense of crises in their lives, including political crises such as Brexit.
“The effects of a political crisis like Brexit can negatively impact people’s psychological well-being causing stress, anxiety and depression, making them question their values and the complexity of life.” said Dr. Alfried Laengle, founder of Existential Analysis and founder and former president of the International Society of Logotherapy and Existential Analysis
“Brexit is essentially a form of freedom and as Existential Analysis is a type of psychotherapy uniquely centred around freedom, it can help the individual to understand and to come to terms with the current political situation,” added Dr. Laengle.
The Existential Analysis diploma, which is being run in London by Existential Analysis and Logotherapy in the UK (GLE International), is the first diploma of its kind in the country. It is a four-and-a-half year course aimed at health professionals, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, counsellors, coaches and anyone who wants to deepen their knowledge in psychology. The 18-module course will provide unique skills in existential analysis and logotherapy, and will open up new career paths for the trainees.
Introductory workshops are being held on 20th and 21st September 2019 at Birkbeck, University of London and the course starts in November 2019.
